Sin has no positive effects or outcomes. It only destroys. The enemy will try to convince you that a momentary pleasure is worth it. You can stop anytime, but just this one last time will be fine… Those are lies. Sin only brings more sin. In today’s message, Pastor Michael will challenge us to a life of abstinence. Not just abstaining from sexual sin, though that’s very important, abstaining from any sin you confront. This isn’t easy. You’ll stumble, but through the Holy Spirit, you can be free from oppression.

Scripture warns that the sins of the fathers are passed down to the next generation. Unsurprisingly, science has been able to find evidence of this. If your parents struggled with a specific sin, you’re likely predisposed to it as well. This shouldn’t be an excuse, but a warning sign. As Pastor Michael will remind us in today’s message, Christ has offered redemption from that cycle of sin. You may deal with that temptation your entire life, but you can be free from its oppression.

The comfort and convenience we have in our modern world can be intoxicating. Just like a stiff drink, it can deaden your senses and numb you to the reality of the spiritual war that’s taking place all around us. In today’s message, Pastor Michael will challenge us to be sober in our minds. This doesn’t just pertain to alcohol. We need to snap out of the stupor we’ve been lulled into and get serious about sharing the Gospel of Jesus with the world around us every chance that we get.

Today Pastor Michael will remind us of the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They were thrown into a fiery furnace when they refused to bow down before King Nebuchadnezzar. In the midst of that intense fire – so intense that it killed the soldiers that threw them in - they were kept safe by a mysterious 4th man that appeared. Many believe that man was Jesus. Even when Nebuchadnezzar called them out, they didn’t want to come out. They preferred to stay in the fire with their Savior.

There are so many gods in our modern culture. Family, friends, careers, wealth, possessions, sports, power… the list could go on and on. As Pastor Michael will point out in today’s message, you won’t find generally find people bowing down in front of those things. But we worship in many different ways. When we dedicate large amounts of attention, time, and resources to things, that can be a form of worship. If it’s something you couldn’t give up for the sake of Christ, it’s an idol.

When you read through the Old Testament, especially books like Leviticus, it can seem overwhelming. The laws and rituals listed there can seem so needlessly specific and strange. In our modern church culture, we’re often afraid of those kinds of things. We want the freedom to worship how we want. But, as Pastor Michael continues our study in 1st Peter, he’ll draw our attention to the beautiful symbolism that God designed into those rituals. At their core, they all pointed towards redemption in Christ.

Most of us wish we could physically see Jesus. How incredible would that be to walk and talk with Him and witness His miracles firsthand? Peter, the author of this book we’re studying with Pastor Michael, got to do that. Our experience of faith is completely different than his, and it requires much more faith. We have to base our beliefs off of things we’ve never seen. How far would you go for that faith? If you faced imprisonment or even death, would you stand strong like the early Church?

Listening to Bible teaching or hanging out with fellow believers in worship and fellowship are wonderful things. For many believers, that’s the extent of their spiritual lives, but God has more for us. He has a bigger purpose for you. Just like Peter, you’re called to take the Gospel out of the walls of the Church. As Pastor Michael will challenge you in today’s message, you’re called to live it out. That’s going to be uncomfortable at times, but God will empower and equip you when you trust in Him.

Jesus told His disciples that His Words are Spirit and life. Unfortunately, we as believers can easily become distracted from focusing on this reality as we go about our daily lives. That being said, how can we possibly expect to speak spirit and life to others? In today's message, Pastor Michael reflects on the importance of both meditating and speaking words of spirit and life. In his study, you'll be encouraged to focus on the eternal words of God, rather than the fleeting things of this world.

As caught up as we tend to get in all that's trending, many of us would be embarrassed to recognize just how quickly they pass. From the latest books, social characteristic recognition trends, or otherwise, what comes, always ends up fading to memory. In today's message, Pastor Michael reflects on this conundrum in light of the Gospel, which will never fade or be forgotten. In his study, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the infinite nature of God's Word, which was and is, and always will be.
